The lovely Joanna nominated me for this however I have a (healthy?) dose of scepticism so I decided to look into this award a little. Let me start of by saying I really appreciate the nomination and it genuinely gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.
A little googling turned up a post from In The Know with Jo in 2013. This post confirmed pretty much what I suspected, this is a way of people saying well done and they have enjoyed your blog. Bad news is the award doesn’t really exist, essentially it is like the old chain letters. Now there is nothing wrong with an essentially harmless practise that allows people to highlight blogs and posts they like but something in me doesn’t like pretending it is something it is not.
The rules as I received them are:
Thank the person that nominated you
Answer the questions from the person that nominated you
Nominate some other bloggers for this award
Write the same amount of questions for the bloggers you have nominated
Notify the bloggers you have nominated.
I’ll happily go along with the top two, especially as I enjoy Joanna’s blog and I was really pleased she took the time to nominate me and tell me she enjoyed my blog. I’ll also answer the questions she posed. And I will use this space to highlight some blogs I have enjoyed and that have brought a little sunshine to my day. I hope you (and Joanna) will forgive me for being a Grinch and not notifying those bloggers or writing questions for them.
So the questions? They and the answers are below but first, please take the time to look at some of the blogs I’ve enjoyed recently:
Joanna from joannathemontrealer
Mike from pleasebringmemywine
JJ from jjsdiner
Ann from travelsandtomes
Lisa from thiswasdinner
Steve from motorsportmarshal
Ali from alilowecommentary
Now onto those questions:
1. What is your favourite season, and why?
Autumn. Crisp mornings with a little frost but not too cold are just perfect for me. All the trees changing colour and slow cooked food are two of my favourite parts.
2. What is your favourite childhood memory?
Probably cooking with my late Nan and making things like Chocolate Crunch Cake or something called Melting Moments (I really must cook those with my small person soon)
3. Favourite musical artist?
Nina Simone. I like a fairly wide variety of music from Stevie Wonder to Seth Lakeman and a bit of Muse, Queen and Rolling Stones thrown in but there’s just something special about Nina.
4. What is your Favourite meal to share with loved ones?
Sunday Roast, I spend quite a few weekends away so the ones at home are even more cherished. We always try to eat as a family anyway but we spend more time together eating a roast dinner and it is one of my favourite meals anyway.
5. Saturday Night Live, Madtv or neither?
Neither. Well I’ve never heard of Madtv although I have enjoyed the bits of Saturday Night Live when I’ve caught it on YouTube.
6. What is your favourite film?
Stand By Me. Partly because I have a huge crush on River Phoenix when I was growing up.
7. Would you ever want to come to Montreal?
Yes. I have friends and family who have visited Canada and its definitely on my list of places to visit.
8. If you could meet one person dead or alive, who would it be?
I think my mother would kill me if I did not say Marilyn Monroe here, she is a total icon and I kind of just want to give her a cuddle.
9. If you had advice for any other blogger, or bloggers just starting out, what would it be?
Write for yourself, as long as you enjoy reading and writing your blog then it doesn’t matter if the only other person who reads it is your mother
10. If you could be anything, what would it be? Whether it be a profession, another person, an animal, an element, be creative!
Water. I love to be by the sea or lakes, there is something soothing about water but it can also be a killer and destroyer. I find it fascinating.
11. Since this is the “sunshine” award, what brings the most sunshine to your life?
Well that was the easiest question of the lot. My family, especially my 7 year old small person. It still amazes me that the Other Half and I created this wonderful little bundle of joy, although I might be slightly less amazed at 8am when she won’t brush her hair or get her school shoes on. Then a cuddle and ‘I love you, Mummy’ will take my breath away all over again.
